I don’t care that it’s far more than 250 words, the jury’s opinion doesn’t concern me anyway.
I used every given word (ignorant, fluffy, traffic, cord and board), included both kinds of speech, described feelings and emotions and made an ‘unexpecting’ ending.
Presenting you my composition for Regional English Olympiad 2014.
‘You’re giving me a cardiac arrest when I’m sitting at the traffic light!’ Green Day was screaming on the radio in my car.
I loved their new song called Troublemaker. I loved a special ignorant way Billie Joe sang that he ‘wanted to get inside’ of some girl. I loved my Chevrolet with fluffy chair cases I had bought recently. I loved driving, it always made me feel like I was some kind of an escapist running away from home but I wasn’t running away. Instead, I tried to make my way through the endless and thick cavalcade of cars to get home. I think I loved anything in the world that minute except traffic jams.
The song finished and a DJ spoke.
‘Sorry poor guys on 17th Avenue who seem to stuck there forever. I have some news for you!’
I laughed when he said what he had said after. It was so funny as if he had misused words ‘cord’ and ‘chord’, you know. I listen to this radio station rather often but DJs have never said a thing like this. DJ said that a skateboard would help us to get home faster. After he had mentioned that a 17th caller would get the prize - a skateboard! - only if he or she was on 17th Avenue at the moment, I couldn’t listen to such nonsense any longer and switched the channel at the same time trying to dial my girlfriend to say that I probably would be late for dinner.
It must have been a mistake but she didn’t answer. A radio DJ did. The DJ who promised to give us a skateboard. I was so shocked when he yelled enthusiastically.
‘Congratulations, my friend! We can see from the Internet that you’re really at the freaking traffic… Hey, are you there? Okay. You won’t be late for dinner tonight, buddy!’
Yes, I could do skate boarding. Yes, the phone number was in my contact list. Yes, the service guys brought the board where I left my car. Yes, I was on time for dinner that night :)
